Overview

The School of Public Policy is a key part of one of Canada’s foremost research universities and a leader in advancing policies for more effective government while educating a new generation of change-makers to solve complex societal challenges.

The School was founded in 2008 by renowned economist Jack Mintz, with a mission to provide a practical approach to public policy research and train students to solve real-world problems through a rigorous, hands-on program.

The distinguished faculty at our Centres of Knowledge and other areas of focus collaborate across departments and disciplines at the University of Calgary and leaders from business and government. Their work drives our purpose-driven research intended to advance policy capacity in government; enhance the policy discourse nationally and bring a global perspective to Canadian policy theory and practice.

Students at the School are focused on addressing societal issues, improving lives and making an impact at the local, provincial, national and global levels. The School provides an elite education through an intense Master of Public Policy (MPP)  program or Master of Science in Sustainable Energy Development (SEDV) with core curriculums and experiential learning that reinforce  creative thinking and develops analytical and leadership skills.

At our campus in downtown Calgary. students are part of a diverse community of faculty, fellows, alumni and a lifelong network of peers and mentors. Our alumni are found in leadership positions in the private, public and non-profit sectors across Canada and around the world.
