The federal government has reintroduced legislation to make the laws of Canada consistent with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), as Bill C-15. It follows in the footsteps of Bill C-262, which died on the order paper before the 2019 election.

While there is broad public support for the affirmation of inherent Indigenous rights, concerns have been raised about the drafting of C-15 and its unintended consequences, especially with regards to the process required to obtain Indigenous consent for resource projects.

This panel of experts will provide Indigenous, industry and legal perspectives on what the implications of Bill C-15 are for Indigenous engagement in resource development, as well as recommendations to improve the Bill before it is passed.
