Regulating Finance to Promote Growth: The Quebec Experience in Perspective
Financial regulatory standards in Canada promote stability in a business that sees rapid changes influenced by international forces. It is important that these standards also promote growth, development and competition in the financial sector. Quebec has been focused on financial stability and growth since the 1960s and has strengthened Montreal’s position as an international finance centre resulting in Montreal now being 27th in the top 100 global financial centres.
Join renowned Canadian business leader Pierre Lortie to discuss how Quebec has fostered a climate of financial growth and what lessons can be used to improve financial regulation in other provinces. Pierre will present his paper, Regulating Finance to Promote Growth: The Quebec Experience in Perspective and join discussants in conversation over the findings.
Mr. Lortie brings a tremendous wealth of direct industry experience to this discussion as one of Canada’s most experienced business leaders. Amongst his many executive roles, Mr. Lortie previously served as President of Bombardier Transportation, Bombardier Capital, Bombardier Aerospace, and Bombardier International. He also served as President and CEO of the Montreal Stock Exchange and has been appointed as a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, as a Senior Research Fellow of the C.D. Howe Institute and a member of the Order of Canada.
This webinar will be an opportunity for participants to discuss how federal and provincial financial regulations can be harmonized to promote growth development. This webinar will include a Q&A session for participants to share thoughts and ask questions.
