The Master of Public Policy just got even better – Government of Alberta partnership provides five paid six-month internships for School of Public Policy students – expanding to 10 positions in future years
The School of Public Policy has entered into a partnership with the Government of Alberta to offer paid internships to students enrolled in its Master of Public Policy program. The School anticipates placing five interns through this program in Spring of 2020, and ten interns each in Spring of 2021 and 2022. The University of Alberta will also place interns enrolled in their Master of Arts in Policy Studies. This exciting opportunity not only gives students unique access to an experiential learning opportunity with the provincial government but will help launch their careers.
The School of Public Policy is Canada’s leading policy school and the Master of Public Policy (MPP) degree is a unique one-year program that prepares graduates for policy-focused careers in both the private and public sectors. Its placement rate for graduates in policy-related positions within six months of graduation exceeds 90%.
Lisa Young, Director of the MPP Graduate Program commented, “This internship program is a wonderful opportunity for students in the University of Calgary’s Master of Public Policy program to gain experience working within government. We are delighted that this partnership will both enhance our students’ experience and help to build public policy expertise in the province of Alberta.”
The University of Calgary Master of Public Policy program is a 13-month integrated program that gives students the skills and understanding to create and implement policy. Students develop a comprehensive understanding that enables them to collaborate with senior policy leaders from government, business and the community to address issues in a practical and empirical manner. The program fosters an appreciation of the importance of effective institutions, efficient regulation and the role that markets play in open, democratic societies.
The School’s influence is reflected by its wide dissemination among policy makers, business leaders, and the media. The School of Public Policy is Canada’s most cited policy school, both within traditional media and academic publications. Its alumni can be found in leadership positions in the private, public and non-profit sectors across Canada.
